This morning went on a walking tour of Granada. Really good guide from https://www.ciceronegranada.com/ Tour was about the contrast between Moorish/Islamic Granada and Catholic Granada and the transition between the two. Started off outside the town hall of Granada and went to a building that was an old Moorish inn called a Fondak, dating from the 14th Century. (It was taken over by the Catholics and called the Corral del Carbón as it was used as a place for storing coal, it was also used as a theatre). Then we went onto the old silk market. After the old silk market was the Cathedral. Building of which started after the reconquista. Next to the Cathedral was another church, which was originally a Mosque. After the Cathedral we went to the lower slopes of the Albayzin, (which since 1984 has been a cultural heritage area of some sort). Walked past tea and souvenir shops to see the different types of houses. Narrow streets, white houses. After the Albayzin we went to see some Arab baths that date from the 11th Century. Finally we went past the extremely shallow Daro River to Plaza Nueva which has an interesting church (Santa Ana), built in the Mudéjar style which is a mix of Christian and Moorish styles of architecture. After the tour went to a couple of tapas places with some of the other tour group members. Ended up talking for about 3 hours…Travelblog.org. Paolo
