4x4 Adventure and Hiking in the Granada Geopark

A complete journey through some of the most charming corners of Andalusia.

Starting the day with an exciting 4×4 adventure through the stunning landscapes of the Geopark of Granada promises to be a unique experience for nature and geology enthusiasts.

We offer two excursion options:

Option A – Easy Difficulty Hiking: Miradores del Fin del Mundo Route.

Option B – Moderate Difficulty Hiking: Desierto los Coloraos.

The fundamental difference between options A and B is the level of difficulty.

Option A – Easy Difficulty Hiking: Miradores del Fin del Mundo Route

This 4×4 route takes you through the most imposing geological treasure in the northern province of Granada, encompassing the regions of Guadix, Baza, and Huéscar, the Geopark of Granada. In a full-day excursion, you’ll discover its most impressive spaces.

Several viewpoints offer spectacular views of the Geological Park, including Paleo-Fardes, the famous Cárcavas del Marchal, and other vistas over the valleys that connected the Iberian inhabitants with the Roman settlers of Granada, ancient Ilíberis. You’ll also explore medieval cave fortresses where Berber mercenaries settled, and much more on a 4×4 route accessible to only a few.

This route is an active tourism experience that we are confident your client will fondly remember for years. The journey begins from Granada. Once in Guadix, we travel by 4×4 to the Miradores del Fin del Mundo, passing through the hamlet of Paulenca.

This enclave, undoubtedly one of the most representative geological sites in the Geopark of Granada, will serve as an opportunity to observe and understand its geological and human history, how the vast valleys of the Hoya de Guadix and its surroundings were formed, rightfully recognized by UNESCO as part of the global geoparks network in 2020.

Additionally, we’ll explore the Natural Monument of the Cárcavas de Marchal with its impressive geological formations and the Cave Fortresses of Covarrones and Tía Micaela in Cortes and Graena.

These spaces, considered Cultural Interest Sites (B.I.C.), currently have restricted access for the general public, limiting entry to organized tours led by specialized guides, giving participants the opportunity to enter and imagine how life was and how they served as defensive combat strongholds in the 10th and 11th centuries.

The adventure continues in a 4×4, visiting other highlights of the geopark, with several stops for photos and to learn more about the geological and cultural history of the area.

Option B – Moderate Difficulty Hiking: Desierto los Coloraos

In this journey through time, participants can firsthand experience how the gradual recession of the sea over thousands of years led to the natural formation of rivers and lakes where, for centuries, large quaternary mammals like saber-toothed tigers thrived.

The movie-like route of this 4×4 tour allows you to enjoy the Desierto Los Coloraos. It follows the course of the Rambla Becerra, which includes unique views of the Valley of the Fardes River, eventually leading to the Balneario de Alicún.

Once there, you’ll visit the magical Toril aqueduct, taking a roughly 45-minute walk that allows participants to transport themselves to a flint market from approximately 10,000 years ago.

The route through the Desert of Gorafe takes us deep into the authentic heart of the Geopark of Granada: the Coloraos.

We continue our 4×4 adventure, visiting other geopark highlights, with several stops for photos and to learn more about the geological and cultural history of the area.
